The Project 168 curriculum includes 10 competency areas. The specific curricula for each area are listed below. Each competency area, developed by a University content expert, has required core experiences accompanied by electives. At a minimum, students will engage in 50 unique experiences.
SERVICE, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND ACTIVISM
Required Core (1)
- Complete 12 hours of community service in an area you are passionate about and log them in iServe
Elective Options (2)
- Participate in an official public education campaign
- Design your own social action project or participate in a project you're passionate about
- Register to vote in your home nation (if applicable)
- Connect with a nonprofit organization and carry out a donation drive
- Attend a WVU-Potomac State College community engagement/volunteer fair and visit a minimum of three organizations
- Participate in programming in a local West Virginia county provided by WVU Extension Services
- Hold active membership in a service-based organization
- Attend a local/state/national debate, forum, meeting, legislative session, etc.
- Complete 10 hours of service with the same organization (in addition to the core requirement)
- Complete a national service program (i.e. AmeriCorps state or national, AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps NCCC (if completed, this will count for both elective requirements)
- Complete a service-based program with Adventure WV
- Vote in an election
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Required Core (1)
- Enroll and complete a co-curricular leadership development cohort experience, such as:

- Attend at least two (2) SOLD Workshops offered by Student Engagement and Leadership

- Register and attend the Multicultural Student Leadership Conference/Retreat
- Serve as a PAL (Peer Advising for Leadership)
- Complete the Certified Student Leader Program
CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Required Core (3)
- Complete your Handshake profile
- Schedule an appointment with a career development specialist (CDS) in Career Services
- Upload your resume to Handshake after it is reviewed by a career development specialist (CDS)
Elective Requirements (2)
Register for one of the following career and professional development courses (if completed, the course will count for both elective requirements)
- ORIN 151 - Choosing a Major and Career: Find your purpose if you are unsure about your major or are considering changing majors
- ORIN 152: Learning Career Skills- Begin preparing for an internship or other career-related work experience
- ORIN 251: Preparing for Success – Refine your resume, build a professional network, and master the interview process
- BTEC 202 - Professionalism
- Complete FOCUS2 to explore possible majors and career options to discuss with a Career Development Specialist (CDS)
- Attend a career fair and/or professional development event hosted by Career Services
- Identify and complete career-related summer or part-time jobs that complement your major
- Job shadow with a local company to gain exposure in your chosen area/field
- Participate in a study abroad or international internship opportunity
- Create a profile on WVU Connect and research WVU alumni working professionally in your area of interest
- Complete Round 1 Entry of the WV Business Plan Competition
CROSS-CULTURAL COMPETENCY

- Attend 2 diversity/inclusion/social justice workshops

- Research Title IX processes and write a reflection
